Amazon Closes 4 Fresh Stores in California The e-commerce giant is reshaping its U.S. grocery strategy once again.
Amazon confirmed it will close Fresh supermarkets in Mission Viejo, La Habra, Whittier, and La Verne.
Employees at these locations were told they will get severance packages and support for new roles.
The closures follow similar shutdowns in Washington, Virginia, New York, and other U.S. cities.
Amazon is focusing more on Whole Foods, which it acquired in 2017 for $13.7 billion.
The company still operates 60+ Fresh stores across the U.S. but growth has slowed.
CEO Andy Jassy says Amazon remains bullish on groceries, with online delivery and new price-conscious brands leading the way.
